Government seeks reform to make justice more efficient

The head of Government, Martí Batres, sent to Congress capital city an initiative to reform article 35 of the Constitution of Mexico Cityin judicial matters, to establish social justice above “non-essential” formalities of the process and thereby avoid the delays in application of sanctions.

“I am going to present an initiative that we will send to the Mexico City Congressso that it can be listed for presentation at the next extraordinary session. It is an initiative for constitutional reform,” he announced.

In a press conference, the capital’s leader clarified to dozens of lawyers who were invited that the proposal does not refer to the issues that have been discussed at the federal level, regarding methods of election of judges, magistrates y ministers.

He explained that he seeks to add a second paragraph to article 35 of the Political Constitution of Mexico Cityin the field of the judicial function, to update the principles under which the jurisdictional function should be governed.

“The initiative aims to strengthen and update the principles under which the jurisdictional function should be governed in the Mexico Cityin order to guarantee access to justice, while also prioritizing people and groups at a social disadvantage,” he clarified.

As an example, he recalled the case of Judge Omar Paredes Gorostieta, who months ago was denounced by the local government for letting a Fabian N, The Puppyan alleged generator of violence who has been wanted since August 2023, despite the fact that the capital’s Attorney General’s Office had offered a reward for his capture.

In relation to this proposal, the person in charge of the Prosecutor, Ulises Lara He said that “it is an initiative that will help us a lot, especially in the construction of common criteria.”

“It will help to build these criteria, without involving the decision or the autonomy of the judges, but rather to standardize the ways to present someone who we know has committed a crime, to have elements so that, let’s say, an accusation can be built together that can be eventually result in a sentence, sanction, or reparation agreement,” he commented.

Lara confirmed that the reward of 3 million pesos for information leading to the capture of Fabián N., El Cachorro, is still in effect, after a federal judge released him in March.
“We could not present the other arrest warrant to the gentleman because he left through a different place… it is evident that it was helped”, mentioned.
