On July 7, 2023, 11 years have passed since the disappearance of Juliana Campoverde. On the occasion of this sad anniversary, Elizabeth Rodríguez, Juliana’s mother, together with friends and human rights organizations, carried out a sit-in outside the Ministry of the Interior.
Lawyer Catalina Reinoso Flores reported that, after a meeting with John Game, undersecretary for public security of the Ministry of the Interior, the Government promised to hire a specialist to carry out the search for Juliana in the Bellavista ravine, where it is presumed that his body is found.
At the end of the sit-in, messages were placed for Juliana, sent by the community. The Regional Foundation for Human Rights Advice (Inredh) expressed its gratitude to all the people who offered their support through messages for Juliana.
On July 7, 2012, Juliana Campoverde disappeared in the south of Quito. Jonathan Carrillo, an evangelical pastor, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime of kidnapping for extortion resulting in death. However, Carrillo has chosen to remain silent and not reveal Juliana’s whereabouts to the authorities.
After 11 years, Juliana’s family continues to demand that the authorities comply with the sentence and continue the search for Juliana until they find her.
