The federal government will launch this Monday, 2, a plan to combat criminal organizations cross country. The initiative, which provides for almost R$900 million in investments, was announced after the public security crisis in Bahia, where police operations left more than 60 dead in September alone, and criticism for omissions in security. OPNational Program to Combat Criminal Organizations (Enfoc), prepared since the beginning of the year by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, will focus on institutional and informational integration; efficiency of police bodies, ports, airports, borders and currency exchanges; efficiency of criminal justice; and cooperation between the Union, States and municipalities and with foreign bodies. Last Sunday, the 24th, the minister of Justice and Public Security, Flavio Dino (PSB), stated that violence in Bahia is “a very challenging situation”. Despite this, Dino ruled out possible federal intervention in the State, which is administered by government officials from the Workers’ Party (PT) for five terms. For the head of the department, this type of action only occurs when there is a lack of action from the state government. “It is not considered for one reason: the State government is acting. Federal intervention is only possible when, clearly, unequivocally, the state apparatus is doing nothing,” he stated. The Minister of Public Security also commented that he is already discussing the situation with the governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodriguesand with the Secretary of Public Security of the State, Marcelo Werner.
