Government of Sonora Rescues Major Markets to Boost Local Economy
After decades of neglect, the Government of Sonora has embarked on a historic rescue mission to revitalize the municipal markets of Hermosillo, Navojoa, and Guaymas. This ambitious project aims to stimulate the local economy and benefit Sonoran families. The initiative boasts an investment of over 80 million pesos, as announced by Governor Alfonso Durazo Montano.
The work on Hermosillo’s Municipal Market No. 1, “José María Pino Suárez,” involves a 63 million peso investment and includes comprehensive renovations to the roof, structure, floors, electrical and plumbing systems, windows, glass, and finishes.
In southern Sonora, the Navojoa market is undergoing a 10 million peso renovation focused on modernizing electrical infrastructure, lighting systems, and safety measures.
“This rescue of the municipal markets will provide better conditions for families and contribute positively to the local economy,” declared the governor.
In Guaymas, approximately eight million pesos were allocated for repairs to windows, wall plaster removal, structural restoration, window traps, pigeon-proof fencing, and waterproofing. Additional work includes roof slab repairs, drainage improvements, rust removal, roof restoration, and plasterwork demolition.
