The governor of Meta, Rafaela Cortés, has categorically rejected the National Government’s proposal to hand over the Gentil Duarte Agricultural Institute to the Meta Government, in an attempt to legalize a work allegedly built by the dissidents of the FARC Central General Staff.

In a video shared on his social networks, Cortés declared: “That was a school built by the dissidents of the FARC Central General Staff with illicit money from kidnapping, extortion and drug trafficking. “We are not going to receive a school with these conditions.”

The Gentil Duarte Agricultural Institute, inaugurated on April 12 in the Yarí plains, El Triunfo village, between Caquetá and Meta, generated controversy due to its alleged links with dissident groups. Although it initially bore the name of Gentil Duarte and had a bust at its entrance, the authorities decided to legalize the land, renaming it Sabanas del Yarí Agroecological.

The National Land Agency carried out a technical visit and determined that the land is not part of the forest reserves, which would allow its delivery to the community for titling procedures. However, the governor highlights the importance of taking legal measures to prevent dissidents from continuing to exert influence in the area.

Currently, children in the region receive classes in a communal booth, since the school has not yet been officially recognized. The Ministry of Education promised to expedite the legalization process, with the expectation that it will be ready by 2025.
