The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, has reinstated the corporal of the Military Police, Victor Cristilder dos Santos, acquitted by the Justice after being imprisoned for five years on suspicion of participation in a massacre that took place in Osasco, in 2015.

The PM was one of four arrested in the crime that left 17 dead and seven people injured.

Cristilder was sentenced to more than 119 years in prison in 2018, but the jury was overturned. With that acquittal becoming final and unappealable, Cristilder’s defense filed an administrative appeal against the expulsion. The thesis was accepted at the beginning of last month.

“The decision put an end to the great suffering that this military police officer went through. Justice, the Military Police and, above all, society owed it to him. The governor’s decision was made by order of the Court of Justice. He had 30 days to comply with the order and so he did, on the last day of the deadline. I am not convinced that, as they are saying, these are new times for starting reintegrations”, points out the PM’s lawyer, João Carlos Campanini.

In addition to the corporal, the municipal guard Sérgio Manhanhã was also acquitted in the 2021 trial. Two other suspects are under arrest. Police officers Fabrício Emmanuel Eleutério and Thiago Henklain.
