The Governor had said in Delhi yesterday that Priya Varghese was able to top the Malayalam Associate Professor rank list of Kannur University despite her lack of qualifications only because she was the wife of KK Ragesh.

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior CPM leader AK Balan said that the general society in Kerala cannot adapt to the Governor’s approach. Nothing illegal has happened in Kannur University. The Governor’s approach is unconstitutional. It is against the University Act. It is not social justice. The notice was sent after the proceedings were stayed. This is against natural justice, he said.
Governor Arif Muhammad Khan had said yesterday that Priya Varghese’s appointment was a political appointment. Priya Varghese was able to top the Kannur University Malayalam Associate Professor rank list only because she was the wife of KK Ragesh. The governor also said in Delhi that it will be checked whether the VC approaching the court is a breach of discipline.
The CPM has decided to wage a political and legal war against the governor who has taken drastic measures. The Kannur VC will question the Governor’s decision to freeze Priya Varghese’s appointment in the High Court. The university syndicate directed the VC to take legal action. The Syndicate opined that the governor’s action was against the autonomy of the university.
Even though the state government is not a party, the state government is supporting the VC in the matter. The Syndicate meeting held in the afternoon decided that the Governor should not give in and fight the legal battle in the High Court. Priya Varghese had come out with a Facebook post against the freezing of the appointment process by the governor. She alleged that it was the effect of political drama and it started from the time her name was shortlisted. They said justice was denied.
