Governor’s notice: VCs have up to seven days to explain – High Court | Kerala | Deshabhimani

Kochi> The High Court has directed the Governor to respond to the notice issued by the Governor asking him to show cause not to fire the vice chancellors before 5 pm on Monday. The court was told that at present Kerala University and Kufos have responded to the Governor’s notice.

The VCs expressed concern that if they reply, the court will not hear their side. However, Justice Devan Ramachandran clarified that the side of the petitioners will be heard. The case was adjourned to Tuesday. |

The Governor issued an order on October 23 demanding the resignation of the VCs of other universities in Kerala in the context of the Supreme Court’s verdict canceling the appointment of the Technical University VC. After this, a show cause notice was also issued. It said that you should give your answer by 5 pm on November 3 and appear at the hearing on the 7th.

The High Court heard the case and extended the time as the deadline was about to expire on Thursday. On Wednesday, the court sought an explanation from the governor. The time was extended after the governor’s lawyer sought time to file the counter affidavit.

The VCs filed a petition claiming that the governor’s notice was not legal and should be quashed. The petitioners argued that the Supreme Court judgment in the Technical University case is applicable only to that and the Governor is acting against the UGC norms. The court had clarified that it was wrong for the governor to issue a letter asking for resignation. Therefore, the petitioners contended that the notice in pursuance of the letter was not legal
