Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said, ‘The government will implement the decision taken by 14 parties to ban Jamaat-Shibir politics. And the government will soon take the next step after seeing what the implementation process will be, what will be the legal basis for it.
He said, ‘We want to take a good look at the legal basis, so that this evil force does not get any chance in independent Bangladesh through any loopholes.’
He said this while addressing a joint meeting with the President-General Secretaries of Dhaka Metropolitan North-South and Dhaka District Awami League and all affiliated organizations at the Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Tuesday (July 30).
Before this, at the beginning of the joint meeting, prayers were conducted for the souls of those killed in the conflict and for the recovery of the injured. After that, the leaders observed Nilabata for one minute.
Obaidul Quader said, “For a long time, various political parties, social organizations, freedom fighters, civil society have been demanding to ban Jamaat-Shibir politics. The people’s court formed at that time under the leadership of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam, the ‘Seventy-one Khatak Dalal Nirmul Committee’, later the mass awakening platform also demanded the banning of Jamaat-shibir. Apart from this, the judgment of the highest court of the country has also been upheld.
He said, according to the People’s Representation Act of Bangladesh, no political party can participate in the election unless it is registered with the Election Commission as a political party. There are precedents in different countries of the world, Hitler’s Nazi Party cannot do politics in Germany after the Second World War. Jamaat-e-Islami has been cited as a group by the International Criminal Tribunal for war crimes. Basically, Jamaat is a communal evil force wearing the mask of religion. At various times, there have been evidences of their involvement in various acts of sabotage, conspiracy and anti-state activities, openly and secretly, and the people of the country have observed it.
