NBT Newsdesk: To avoid any fraud in online transactions, OTP i.e. One Time Password is used, but despite this, fraudsters sometimes succeed in cheating. Many times people themselves give the OTP and sometimes fraudsters commit fraud by hacking the mobile. Now the government has thought of creating such an alert system, so that fraud can be prevented through OTP. For this, the Home Ministry is working closely with SBI card and telecom operators. Such a system will be prepared that if someone fraudulently obtains OTP, the person will be warned about it and the fraud can be stopped.

OTP will be sent only after database check.

According to the report of Times of India, in the system being developed, the registered address of the customer as well as the geo location of his SIM and the place at which the OTP is called, all these will be matched. If any difference is found between them, an alert will be sent to the customer that he may be cheated. According to the plan, OTP will be sent only after checking the customer’s database with the help of telecom companies.

matching sim location

Recently the Reserve Bank had insisted on additional authentication for any digital payment transaction to prevent fraud. The reason for this is that fraudulent banks steal the OTP by deceiving the customer or fraudulently take the OTP on their device. In this regard, an official said that two options are being worked on to stop fraud. The effort is to ensure that if there is any difference between the place of delivery of OTP and the location of the customer’s SIM, either an alert is popped up on the device or the OTP itself is completely blocked. Right now, all this is still in process.

What to do if you are cheated?

The government is not only making efforts to stop fraud, it is also continuously making people aware about how to take immediate action if fraud occurs. Under this, if there is a suspicion of fraud, you should immediately inform your bank or credit card company and get your card or account blocked. Also, an online complaint should be lodged immediately on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. One should go to the police station and lodge an FIR in the cyber crime cell.
