Goyang City Embarks on UAM Industry Promotion Plan
Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) recently held a successful meeting to kick off the ”Goyang Special City UAM Industry Promotion Plan Research Service,” a significant step towards fostering the burgeoning Urban Air Mobility (UAM) industry.
This initiative is spearheaded by the Korea Aerospace University Industry-Academic Cooperation Group, a leading aviation-specialized university in Korea, renowned for its expertise in UAM technology and development. Joining forces with Wizen Global Co., Ltd., a specialized consulting firm experienced in UAM projects, the city anticipates significant synergy effects.
The project aligns with the UAM Metropolitan Area Demonstration Project (GC-2), led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. This collaboration aims to foster mid- to long-term industrial development, infrastructure construction, and company attraction for urban air traffic.
Through this comprehensive service, Goyang City plans to:
Establish a roadmap for nurturing the UAM industry and attracting companies.
Review the creation of a UAM Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) complex near the UAM demonstration complex.
Analyze both domestic and foreign UAM industries to identify potential companies to attract.
Assess public acceptance and market potential.
* Review potential corridors (routes) for designating UAM demonstration operation areas.
Several prominent figures attended the report meeting, including Environment and Economy Committee Chairperson Lee Hae-rim, who expressed the council’s unwavering support for the UAM industry. The city’s Director of the Self-Sufficiency City Realization Bureau, Choi Young-soo, emphasized the importance of this initiative in shaping the innovative future of the UAM sector and boosting the regional economy.
Goyang City plans to actively collaborate with government agencies, aviation universities, and the local community to commercialize urban air transportation, transforming the city into a leading center in the UAM landscape.
