Goyang City plans and attracts specialized performance content to seven indoor and outdoor performance halls representing the Ilsan and Deogyang regions, Goyang Aram Nuri and Eoullim Nuri, to present high-quality performances that combine artistry and popularity.
Opened in 2007 in Madu-dong, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang Aram Nuri is a genre-specific performance hall with three indoor performance halls. There is the Aram Theater, an opera theater, and the Aram Music Hall, which has the best architectural acoustics, and major professional art performances such as performances by overseas performers, national and public art groups, operas, ballets, and symphonies are mainly held there. The Aram Theater and Byeolmorae Theater of Goyang Eoullim Nuri, which opened in 2004 in Seongsa-dong, Deogyang-gu, are loved as multipurpose performance halls where popular performances that children and families can enjoy are widely held.
The city expanded its planned performance budget from 1.7 billion won to 2.7 billion won last year, focusing on creating high-quality masterpiece content. By expanding the connection with professional manpower and actively applying for public contests, it is planning and hosting a variety of performance content, including public and private organization brand performances, performances by world-class artists, plays, and musicals.
This year in particular, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Goyang Cultural Foundation and the opening of Goyang Eoullim Nuri, a total of 40 planned performances and various special programs will be presented. Goyang Sports Complex, which can accommodate 40,000 people, can be used for excellent and large-scale performances
Goyang City is promoting a competition and attraction project for the Goyang Sports Complex as part of its efforts to create a performance hub city this year. Located in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang Sports Complex can accommodate up to 40,000 people, so it is used as a venue for concerts and festivals in addition to sports events.
In order to attract excellent performances to Goyang Sports Complex, the city is reducing the usage fee ratio from 10% to 6% of the total ticket revenue this year and supporting administrative cooperation such as reducing rental fees and giving priority to rental schedules. The business briefing session held early this year to announce the rental competition attracted a lot of attention, with 50 people from 18 companies including performance planning companies, operating companies, broadcasting companies, and entertainment agencies attending.
Starting with the public offering project, the city is promoting activities for attracting and business cooperation, and is trying to attract large-scale and excellent performances such as concerts by famous singers and performances by foreign singers in Korea. KINTEX, which attracts 6 million visitors annually, expands its territory to become a large-scale performance venue
KINTEX, the largest exhibition convention center in Korea with approximately 6 million visitors annually, is also emerging as a large-scale performance venue. Located near Daehwa Station, KINTEX is easily accessible from Seoul and the metropolitan area via Jayuro and the 2nd Jayuro. It is within 40 minutes by car from Incheon Airport and Gimpo Airport, and is connected to Line 3, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and Seohae Line. GTX-A KINTEX Station is scheduled to open in the second half of the year.
The first and second exhibition halls have a total indoor exhibition area of 108,000㎡ and 10 exhibition halls, which can be used in various ways, such as large-scale performance halls or waiting spaces. Preparations are underway for the construction of the third exhibition hall, and an anchor hotel with 310 rooms on 21 floors is scheduled to be built on the KINTEX site, and construction of a parking tower is also underway. Nearby are commercial areas such as La Festa and Western Dome, as well as tourist attractions such as One Mount and Aqua Planet Ilsan.
As these location conditions and infrastructure become known, the demand for KINTEX as a performance venue is gradually increasing. From the 5th to the 7th, ‘Waterbomb Seoul 2024’ was held at the KINTEX Outdoor Global Stage, marking the beginning of this year’s Waterbomb. Accessibility for foreign artists and visitors is also convenient, and there are a series of performances scheduled in Korea, including Noel Gallagher’s performance on the 26th and Rainy’s performance in September.
