Goyang Special City and Goyang East Saemaeul Geumgo signed an agreement on ‘Birth Celebration Baby Account Support’. On the 28th, Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) signed a business agreement with Goyang East Saemaeul Geumgo (Chairman Kim Jae-soo) to promote the ‘Goyang Citizen Birth Celebration Baby Passbook Issuance Support Project’.
This project began in 2020 by providing 100,000 won when opening a bank account at Goyang East Saemaeul Geumgo in the name of a baby.
The city announced that the subsidy at the start was 40,000 won, but it was increased to 100,000 won the following year, and that there was a high response from citizens, with the cumulative number of bank account openings participating in this project reaching 2,296.
He also explained that this project is particularly meaningful in that it is a public-private joint cooperation project promoted by local governments and private financial institutions to solve the problem of low birth rate population, which has emerged as a current social problem.
Goyang Special Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “Like the African proverb that it takes a whole village to raise a child, measures against low birth rates should be promoted in a way that the entire society steps in to alleviate the burden of childcare on parents.” He added, “This project is in that sense. “I hope it will become a good example,” he said.
Kim Jae-soo, Chairman of Goyang East Saemaul Geumgo, said, “Goyang East Saemaul Geumgo has been carrying out various projects for the local community, such as supporting scholarships for children in college, providing children’s reading subsidies, raising funds from the Jomdori movement, and supporting the underprivileged with rice fuel costs.” “I hope that this project will also remain as an example of a successful public-private partnership project with much participation from citizens,” he said.
