Goyang Special City Council (Chairman Kim Un-nam) has begun exploring ways to utilize tangible and intangible brand resources.

On September 10, the Goyang Special City Council’s research group, the ‘City Brand Research Association (Chairman Kim Hae-ryeon),’ visited the EBS integrated building, JTBC headquarters, and Goyang Aqua Studio for the purpose of researching the use of Goyang City’s tangible and intangible brand resources.

This benchmarking was carried out to visit the EBS Integrated Headquarters, the core production facility of the Korean Educational Broadcasting Corporation that is developing Goyang City into a mecca for the development of cutting-edge media content including educational content; the Sangam JTBC Headquarters, which is a comprehensive media hub for news, dramas, and entertainment and a center of the broadcasting, IT, and content industries, contributing to the development of K-content; and Goyang Aqua Studio, which is the first and largest underwater filming studio in Korea and has received great attention from domestic and foreign film and drama production companies, helping Goyang City establish itself as a center of film and media production. The visit was intended to reference actual strategies and cases through which Goyang Special City can contribute to improving the quality of life of its citizens and revitalizing the local economy.

On this day, members of the City Brand Research Association visited the locations, listened to introductions to the facilities and explanations of various matters, and asked follow-up questions. They also listened to explanations of the efforts, progress, achievements, and future plans of each organization to vitalize the media industry through the production of quality content, and held a Q&A session.

Rep. Kim Hae-ryeon, who serves as the chairwoman of the City Brand Research Association, said after visiting the three locations mentioned above, “This visit has laid the groundwork for suggesting a strategic direction that can simultaneously pursue economic development along with the revitalization of cultural tourism through the content industry, a high value-added industry utilizing broadcasting and video assets located in Goyang Special City and Sangam, Seoul.” The City Brand Research Association promises to plan a unique city branding strategy for Goyang Special City based on this insight and follow it up with specific legislative activities.

The City Brand Research Association is chaired by Rep. Kim Hae-ryeon, with Rep. Kim Mi-kyung serving as vice-chairman. Reps. Song Gyu-geun, Cho Hyeon-suk, Jeong Min-kyung, Lim Hong-yeol, and Moon Jae-ho are members and will be active until the end of November.
