Goyang Special City Council’s Culture and Welfare Committee (Chairman Kim Mi-soo) sought policy directions for tourism culture and welfare through domestic training and sought to strengthen the capabilities of its members.

The Culture and Welfare Committee visited Jeju Island for 3 days and 2 nights from September 25th to 27th, and conducted programs such as policy exchange with the Jeju Island Council’s Health, Welfare and Safety Committee (Chairman Gil-ho Hyun), and a tour of the Bontae Museum, a private museum.

At a policy exchange meeting with the Jeju Provincial Council’s Health, Welfare and Safety Committee, the Culture and Welfare Committee exchanged opinions on Jeju Island’s population distribution by age group and the status of health care and welfare infrastructure. At this meeting, Hyun Gil-ho, Chairman of the Health, Welfare and Safety Committee of the Jeju Provincial Council, said, “The aging problem of Jeju residents is becoming more serious day by day,” and “We are putting a lot of effort into preparing the budget for the health and welfare sector.” Goyang City Council Chairman Kim Mi-soo said, “The population distribution of Goyang citizens is not much different from Jeju Island,” and “requested specific data on policy issues that Jeju Island Council is interested in.” Chairman Hyun Gil-ho decided to actively cooperate.

The Cultural Welfare Committee recently visited the Bontae Museum, one of Jeju’s representative private museums, in connection with Goyang City’s promotion of building a city museum within its jurisdiction. Bonte Museum is a private museum known to have been designed by famous architect Tadao Ando and opened in 2012 with support from Hyundai Group. It consists of five exhibition spaces and a park.

Members of the Cultural Welfare Committee who toured the museum said, “After visiting the Bontae Museum in person, I found that attracting a museum of a certain size or more led by the private sector not only secures excellent exhibition space and parks and reduces budget, but also allows Goyang citizens to enjoy various special exhibitions and cultural contents. “You will be able to enjoy it,” he said, raising the question, “Is it necessary for the public to build museums?”

Meanwhile, Chairperson Kim Mi-soo said, “Based on the data and content collected through this training, we will conduct research, communicate, and engage in more active legislative activities to overcome the financial difficulties recently faced by Goyang City and discover competitive policies.”
