Colombo,

The Rajapakse brothers who were in power in Sri Lanka stepped down a few months ago following the outbreak of a people’s revolution due to the severe economic crisis in Sri Lanka. Gotabaya Rajapakse, who was the president, resigned in July and Mahinda Rajapakse, who was the prime minister, resigned in May. The Offices of the President and the Prime Minister have now published the expenses incurred by both of them for foreign travel in the previous year when they were in power. In other words, the foreign travel expenses of the two are Rs. 4.30 crores, according to the press release.

In this, Rs 3.6 crore has been spent on the trip undertaken by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse to Bangladesh and Italy. Similarly, President Gotabaya Rajapakse has spent Rs. 70 lakhs for his trip to New York, Glasgow and the United Arab Emirates. The fact that the Rajapakse brothers spent so much money on foreign trips when the country was in a huge economic crisis has caused anger among Sri Lankans.
