Former former England batsman and coach Graham Thorpe passed away. This former English cricketer passed away today, Monday (August 5) at the age of 55. The news of his death was confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Thorpe had been seriously ill for a long time. Since 2022, the illness had overtaken him. Finally left. Mourning his death, the ECB wrote, ‘It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Graham Thorpe. There are no words to express our shock at Graham’s death.’

The statement further said, ‘The world of cricket is in mourning today. Our condolences to his wife Amanda, children, father Geoff and all family members and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. We will always remember Graham for his extraordinary contribution to cricket.’

Thorpe played for England in the nineties. Thorpe played 100 Tests for England from 1993 to 2005. He scored 6744 runs at 44.66 with 16 centuries. He scored 2380 runs in 82 ODIs. He scored 21,000 runs in his first-class career and over 10,000 runs in List ‘A’.

Thorpe took up coaching after retiring from playing. He also served as the batting coach of the England national team. He was announced as the head coach of Afghanistan in March 2022. But due to serious illness, he could no longer take responsibility.
