Dominik Klepek still goes to school. He also programmed the grammar app Grammario. He taught himself the necessary skills – despite bureaucratic hurdles. He missed one topic in particular in class.

Mit “The dative is the death of the genitive”, author Bastian Sick landed a surprising bestseller about German grammar almost 18 years ago. A generation later, commas and other spelling rules are still difficult for many people.

Young entrepreneur Dominik Klepek has also had this experience. The prospective high school graduate came of age in December 2020 and is about to launch his Grammario app.

“I was 15 when I noticed that many people in my school environment had problems with German grammar and spelling,” said Klepek of “Gründerszene”. Inspired by the Babbel e-learning platform, he has developed his own app, which primarily focuses on native speakers, but is also intended to help foreign speakers.

Grammario is about making fewer mistakes while writing and solving language problems – with the help of game elements. Klepek developed the app mainly with his own programming knowledge. He acquired them on the Internet and through summer jobs as a software developer for companies.

The app is currently in the beta phase with around a hundred testers. In the coming weeks it will appear in the app stores and be offered as a Fremium model. This means: The first tasks can be solved free of charge, fees apply for additional offers.

Grammario aslowed down by the bureaucracy

The development time of the app dragged on much longer than Klepek would have expected. At the age of 16 he obtained his legal capacity to do business. “You can’t just try anything, you have to overcome all bureaucratic hurdles,” complains the Grammario founder. “I also go to school on the side. And that is not always easy to combine with working on the app. “

So far, he has missed the subject of entrepreneurship in class, he says. “And if it’s only about learning what the difference between a UG and a GmbH is.”

At the age of eight, Klepek began using the Internet to teach himself how to program. The initial dream of setting up my own game development company has turned into a grammar start-up. At the beginning he had concerns about how his classmates would perceive this rather “uncool” topic.

If the school cooperates, it works

Today Klepek says that it was the right decision to have worked on the app so early. Not only did his classmates support him, there was also a lot of support recently from the teaching staff and the school management. This year Klepek won first place in the Start-up Teens initiative in the field of education – also with the help of the voices of its school environment.

With the prize money of 10,000 euros, Klepek now wants to hire a first employee, a classmate, and employ more freelancers for the content of the app.

“My goal is to build a real company out of Grammario. In the near future, this will also include your own office. I want to do this full-time. ”But first Klepek has to pass his Abitur in the summer of 2022.

As soon as that is done, he wants to look for a business angel: “To have a mentor and to be able to learn from the expertise.” Klepek says that his parents have always supported him in his plan, even though they have not Related to founding.
