Grammys 2024: Cyrus wins for first time in her career, Jay-Z questions the award

by time news

The best recordings, compositions and artists from October 1, 2022 to September 15, 2023 were honored on the evening of February 4 at the 66th annual awards Grammys.

The night’s big winner was Phoebe Bridgers, who walked away with 4 awards in her hands. SZA, boygenius, Victoria Monét and the ‘Barbie’ soundtracks followed with three wins each. THE Billie Eilishthe Miley Cyrus and the Taylor Swift they had two, while Swift broke another record by becoming the first artist to win the award for album of the year four times.

Miley Cyrus was among the winners of the Grammys for the first time in her career. “Flowers” earned her a win in the “Recording of the Year” category as well as the “Best Pop Solo Performance” category.

But Cyrus was in the spotlight not only because of her wins but also because of what she said when she took the stage.

“I just got stuck in traffic because of the rain and I thought I was going to lose this moment. And if I lost the award, that’s fine, but not Mariah Carey,” the singer said, and then underlined how important her first Grammys honors are for her, after almost two decades of working in the music industry.

In addition, Taylor Swift managed to shock her fans by accepting the award for album of the year, announcing that she will release her new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ on April 19.

Jay-Z’s questioning of the event and his support of Beyoncé

Jay-Z accepting the 2nd Annual Dr. Dre Global Impact Award – in recognition of his musical legacy – questioned the process behind the voted categories.

“We want all of you to do it right. At least close to right. And obviously it’s subjective. You don’t have to applaud everything. Obviously it’s subjective because, you know, it’s music and it’s based on opinion,” the hip-hop artist began.

“But, you know, I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone and she’s never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, this doesn’t work. Consider this. The most Grammys without ever winning album of the year. That doesn’t work,” he added, referring to his wife, Beyoncé, who has been nominated four times for album of the year and has never won. Beyoncé was nominated for Best New Artist in 2010 (losing to Taylor Swift), 2015 (losing to Beck), 2017 (losing to Adele) and 2023 (losing to Harry Styles).
