The gala was marred by delays due to pro-Palestinian protests outside the venue, which prevented the stars from walking the red carpet.
A confusion error then occurred Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice were revealed as the Best Rap Song winners with Barbie on the Grammys’ official account on X, which fans saw as Minaj’s first Grammy after 12 previous nominations without a win. However, this turned out to be wrong, and indeed it was Killer Mike who won the category with the song “Scientists & Engineers”, which was corrected 13 minutes later.
After winning three Grammys, Killer Mike was arrested by police and escorted out of the gala in handcuffs, with no clear charges against the 48-year-old rapper. However, the police confirm that a person is in custody on suspicion of assault, but do not want to confirm the person’s identity.
And Miley Cyrus performed last year’s big hit “Flowers”, for which she also won a Grammy, she criticized the – according to her – strict audience:
«Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?» she shouted from the stage.
Even Jay Z took the opportunity to give a boot to the gala. When he received dr. Jersey honorary award he addressed the fact that Beyoncé, which has won the most Grammys ever, has never taken home the award for best album of the year. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with this year’s nominations:
“Some of you don’t even place in your categories,” he said before apologizing.When I get nervous, I tell the truth.“
One of the gala’s surprises was Michelle Obama who won in the Best Audiobook Narrator category for The Light We Carry: Overcoming In Uncertain Times.
The year’s most prestigious award, album of the year, went to Taylor Swift for Midnights, making her historic as the artist who has won the award the most times in Grammy history. Swift also took home a Grammy for Best Pop Album with Midnights and announced during her acceptance speech that her next album, The Tortured Poet’s Departmentwill be released on April 19.
