This reception, which was held at the headquarters of the Moroccan residence in Tokyo, was marked by the presence of many high-ranking Japanese dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yamada Kenji, who represented the Japanese government on this occasion, as well as several representatives of the Japanese private sector, the academic world, journalists and members of civil society.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Moroccan ambassador, Rachad Bouhlal, highlighted the excellent relations between Morocco and Japan, relations based on the close ties of friendship and mutual esteem which unite the Moroccan Royal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family.
He also underlined that the excellence of relations between Morocco and Japan on the political level was illustrated this year by a regular exchange of high-level visits between the two countries.
On the economic and commercial front, Mr. Bouhlal highlighted the structuring projects implemented by Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in the industrial fields, innovation and renewable energies. These projects, said the diplomat, make Morocco a competitive continental platform, as well as one of the most important destinations in the world in terms of foreign direct investment.
He also highlighted the progress made by Morocco and Japan, with the entry into force, in 2022, of two agreements on non-double taxation and on the protection of investments as well as the authorization for the importation of Moroccan clementines and mandarins, granted by Japan last March.
The diplomat recalled that the strengthening of the economic and commercial legal framework between the two countries is part of a growing dynamic of Japanese investments in Morocco which has led to the creation of more than 55,000 jobs in the Kingdom.
In the cultural field, the ambassador highlighted the numerous activities aimed at promoting Moroccan culture as well as cultural dialogue with Japan, notably the inauguration of the Moroccan Garden of Gifu, which presents to the Japanese public the know-how and the architectural techniques of Moroccan craftsmanship.
In his speech on this occasion, Mr. Kenji expressed his government’s sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Illustrious Royal Family and the Moroccan people on the occasion of the Glorious Throne Day.
He stressed that Japan is a long-standing friend and partner of Morocco and that this relationship is based on the traditional ties of friendship between the Japanese Imperial Family and the Moroccan Royal Family.
Mr. Yamada also highlighted the dense and fruitful exchanges of visits between senior Moroccan and Japanese officials, as well as the numerous contacts established between economic operators of the two countries, allowing significant development of bilateral relations at different levels.
In this regard, he welcomed the organization in Morocco, last February, by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), of a “Green Business Mission”, with the participation of 35 Japanese companies, which underlines, according to the Japanese official, the great interest that Japanese economic operators have in Morocco.
The reception marking the Throne Day also received significant media coverage since three major Japanese daily newspapers, Nikkei, Japan Times and Japan News, published articles dedicated to this event, including an interview with the Moroccan ambassador to Japan.
