This is information that will have the effect of a bomb a few months before the World Cup in Qatar. This Monday, the British newspaper The Telegraph reveals that an international football player was arrested during the day, in Barnet, north London, on suspicion of rape.
If the name of the player in question has not filtered through the media across the Channel, this footballer, who plays in the Premier League, would be in his twenties and would be “internationally renowned”. In addition to playing in one of the best European championships, this player was to participate in the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
The player’s club aware of the arrest
The latter is currently in police custody for the purpose of being questioned on alleged acts of aggression which allegedly took place in June. In a statement, the Metropolitan Police Service headquarters in London Scotland Yard confirmed the player’s custody.
“On July 4, an allegation of rape of a woman in her twenties was reported to the police. The alleged rape was reported to have occurred in June 2022,” the Metropolitan Police said in its statement, while investigations into the circumstances are still “ongoing.”
According to the Telegraph, the club of the player concerned would be aware of his arrest but would have refused to make any comment to the newspaper.
