Great interest not only from Rhodes but also from the other islands of the Dodecanese for the event on the theme: “Holistic Sustainable Development | from Production to Gastronomy – Hospitality”, organized by EPOT within the framework of “the Rhodes Co_Lab”, on Wednesday 10 July 2024, at 18.00 with a duration of approximately 2 hours. It takes place under the auspices of the South Aegean Region at the hotel in Faliraki (after the Kallithea Springs) which sponsors the hosting of the event.
NIKIFOROS STEIKAKIS, holds the position of operational director at SFDO (Sustainable Food Destination Organization), ) from 2022.
He specializes in the design/optimization of processes and systems, and the application of systemic approaches to action in complex environments. For the last 15 years he was in charge of the design and management of digital & organizational transformation projects for the OTE group and . The non-profit organization oriented towards the nutritional sustainability of destinations. cooperates with the Rhodes Co-Lab and the TUI Care Foundation, in a corresponding project.
His speech on “Hospitality, Gastronomy and Agricultural Production in the light of modern challenges and the need for sustainability” will show us how hospitality, gastronomy and agricultural production are connected – both at the level of the problem and at the level of solutions- with the contemporary challenges facing human civilization. It will be explained why and how our perspective and actions must begin to change in order to safeguard our own well-being and that of future generations.
DIMITRIS KALAITZIDAKIS studied at ASTER and then with a master’s degree in & in the USA. After many years of management of luxury hotels, in 2012 he assumed the position in with the tasks of strategic planning, design and development of innovative hotel products and services, the integrated ones that give a strong identity and create goodwill. Among other things, he writes articles on tourism, is a lecturer on tourism issues at universities, etc.
In his speech, the examples will link all the previous ones as follows: a) Agrecofarms, Grecotel’s organic estate in Rethymnon. For almost 25 years now, it has been the best example of successful interconnection of Tourism with the Primary sector and is the most faithful application of the “Farm to Table” concept. B) The Greek Center of Excellence for Health and Wellness is the result of the collaboration of the Greek professor of the Harvard Medical School in the Department of Public Health, Dr Stefano Kales with Grecotel. C) The 2 international conferences on the theme “Cretan way of life – Past and Future”, bring selected thought leaders from the areas of Medicine, Nutrition, Wellness, Catering and Tourism. D) Yale Hospitality, Ivy League of Yale University with Grecotel as a strategic partner, trains hospitality and catering professionals in the secrets of the healthy Cretan/Mediterranean diet.
The event is open to the public, it is addressed to the field of Hospitality (hoteliers, hotel managers and executives), to restaurants, to the PRIMARY sector (farmers, producers), to Manufacturing, to agronomists and in general to local entrepreneurship in order to see practices and to discuss Holistic Sustainable Development in our country.
