Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team) once again gave us a superb performance at the 2024 Giro d’Italia by winning the “queen stage” on Sunday.
With a time of 6h11:43, Pogacar crossed the finish line alone, winning his fourth stage in this edition of the Giro. The Slovenian attacked 13 kilometres from the finish and with a blistering pace he caught and then overtook Colombian Nairo Quintana, who led this day until the final two kilometres.
Pogacar was 29 seconds ahead of Quintana and more than 2 minutes ahead of the German Steinhauser, who finished third. The “maglia rosa” wearer is the absolute leader of the general classification, with a huge gap over his closest pursuer (6:41 over Geraint Thomas).
As for Jonathan Narváez, he was part of a group that led the race for several kilometres. However, after two demanding mountain passes, he ran out of legs, crossing the finish line in 39th place.
The “Lizard” Narváez is in 26th place in the general classification, 43:46 behind the leader (Pogacar). The Giro d’Italia will have its second day of rest tomorrow, resuming activity on Tuesday with stage 16.
