Greece is apparently what Israel should have been. A happy, delicious, and moderately lazy Middle Eastern country. Her heart is in the East but her soul is in Europe. Like them, we too were supposed to deal with fishing, heat, and breaking plates, and not with existential dangers, dubious coups, and breaking conventions.

Precisely these days, it is worth going back to the sources and taking a closer look at the place where the idea of “majority rule” began (albeit in its crooked form), in a country that is considered the “cradle of democracy”. Even the high-tech, which Israel is proud of, is transitory in contrast to the olive oil of the Greeks, which is eternal, high-quality, symbolic, and versatile.

Greece is not just a place, it is an idea. Every grown man has an island in Greece that he believes he was the first to discover and is the best, the cleanest, with the most amazing and pristine beaches. Nexus. Mykonos. Zakynthos – the names are always similar, only the flight distances are different.

As we all know, and understandably, in July-August there is a collective desire to overlap here. Everyone just wants one thing – to find a cheap deal abroad. It’s not for nothing that a small vacation is called a “sting.” As if we’ve committed a crime or taken what we don’t deserve. This desire meets the best foreign promises: “This is a place without Israelis,” It’s like the French Riviera, but cheaper” and, of course, “it’s a new destination that just opened.” Therefore, a real achievement will be considered the combination of all these in “a place without Israelis, just like the Riviera only cheaper, a new destination that has just opened, and has direct and convenient flights to it!”.

The world has always been spread out before us, but every summer, amazingly, new pieces of land are discovered that can be landed on and are a hope for another, new, better place than anything we’ve known.

This year’s news is: Peloponnese in Greece. Similar to the reading “It’s not a super – it’s a mini-super” here it’s not an island – it’s a peninsula! Its territory is the territory of Israel; it can be crossed by car in five hours; most of the locals are engaged in agriculture, such as growing corn, olives, tomatoes, and fishing, and following the economic crisis from which they are starting to emerge, also in tourism. Esht Tours operates three weekly flights (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday) to the Hellenic Paradise located in the southwestern part of Greece. We already know Crete, Rhodes, and Athens. We heard about Naxos, Paros, and Mykonos, some of us were, most of us liked it. Peloponnese is the same thing only bigger, more diverse, and more successful.

It is a peninsula connected to Greece by a bridge in the west and a canal called Cornitos in the east. It is a place where every hotel is a resort and every restaurant is a tavern. Inexplicably, there are those who are looking for nightlife that can be found in the town of Patras. Those who wish to diversify the beating in the pool and the “beach volley” games on the beach with a little history (not us) – can go to the Homeric palace of Agamemnon in Mycenae or the palace of Nestor in Pylos and of course – Olympia, the site where the Olympic Games began in 776 BC. Then men from all over Greece came to the competitions, which were not yet called the Olympics, and took place without closed or air-conditioned spaces, in 42-degree heat, in various sports and were held completely naked.

They mostly had an attraction to running and discus throwing. Every discus they saw – they threw it as far as possible, making it a full-fledged sport. It seems that if it wasn’t naked, no one would be interested in a man throwing a discus. But a naked man throwing a discus can be both a sporting event but also somewhat comical.

Back to the present day. We stayed at the five-star hotel “Olympia Village Aldemar”, which is a pastoral holiday village located on a large stretch of beach and has 40 pools, some of which are private. When I asked each member of the family what he liked most about the vacation, one said the water slide (me), one said the food, and two claimed that they liked the entertainment team the most. Outside the hotel, there is a tavern and a souvenir shop where you can buy vacuum olives (the city of Kalamata, by the way, is nearby) and olive oil with a quality acidity we have not yet known of 0.2 and 0.3. We bought everything knowing that it might not be Israeli, but also in Greece, it turns out, it’s blue and white.
