Greek Football Faces Setback as AEK Misses UEFA League Phase, Paving the Way for PAOK and Panathinaikos

The die is cast. AEK was the only representative of Greek football that failed to qualify for the League Phase of a UEFA competition, and next winter we will have three teams in European cups. Besides the Conference League holder Olympiakos, who had “locked” their spot in the Europa League through the qualifying rounds, PAOK and Panathinaikos also secured their continuation in Europe.

The Thessaloniki team had completed their qualification for the Europa League against Shamrock Rovers at Toumba and “paired” their victories in Ireland. For its part, the Trifylli made a comeback after their defeat in France, as they defeated Lens 2-0 at the Olympic Stadium and advanced to the Conference League.

After the completion of the Play Offs, Greece climbed to 15th place in the UEFA ranking, thanks to the two victories – qualifications of Panathinaikos and PAOK.
