Greek Prime Minister Refers MP Marios Salmas to Ethics Committee Amid Internal Party Conflicts

The case of the expulsion from the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy is referred for Marios Salmas with a letter from the Prime Minister to the Chairman of the party’s Ethics Committee.

Specifically, according to sources, the Prime Minister and President of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in a letter to the Chairman of the Ethics Committee of New Democracy, Ioannis Tragas, refers the matter of expulsion from the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy based on paragraph b) of article 20 and article 21 of the Parliamentary Group’s Operating Regulations, concerning the MP of Aetolia-Acarnania, Marios Salmas.

The MP of New Democracy had consecutively attacked the Minister of Finance Kostis Hatzidakis regarding red loans and the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis concerning the increases in medicine prices.

The last straw that overflowed the cup and caused significant discontent in Maximos was the attack on the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni regarding photo-specific tenders for the cafeterias of the Ministries of Culture and Health.

It should also be noted that during the meeting of the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy last June, Marios Salmas provoked the furious reaction of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis when he questioned whether New Democracy is “with the few or with the many.” “I do not accept implications. I will not accept insinuations. We are with the many, and that’s why we received 41%,” the Prime Minister responded.

Previously, Marios Salmas had also requested an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy regarding the “adverse,” as he described it, “electoral result” of the ruling party in the European elections.
