The umbrellas stuck in the sand and the towels spread out on the seashore have become a problem for the inhabitants of the Greek coasts, who demand the return of the beaches for all. Occupied by mass tourism and privatized by businesses in the height of the high season, the Greeks have managed to get the authorities to ensure unimpeded access. Some politicians have included “free access to the beaches” as an electoral proposal.
