The Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CIG), together with the French Embassy accredited to the Republic of Guatemala, and the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Guatemala held the fourth Green Economy Forum, this year under the motto “The expertise French in the field of energy transition”.

Perspective Writing

As reported, during the event the experiences of the region of French companies in the sectors of renewable energy, electric mobility and environmentally friendly energy solutions were presented. This, so that Guatemalan entrepreneurs have the opportunity to implement greater technology to explore commercial opportunities that can benefit both nations; strengthen ties between business communities and establish a fruitful relationship between both countries, thus strengthening the economy and trade relations.

The forum was attended by national and international speakers, who addressed relevant topics such as: opportunities for Guatemala in investment in renewable energies; bidding processes for Generation (PEG-5) and Transmission (PET) in Guatemala; and energy transition in industry: challenges and opportunities for a sustainable future.

Additionally, at the forum, French companies shared their knowledge in the energy transition with the participants, in the panel “Renewable energies and storage: French expertise at the service of the Mesoamerican region.”

As well as the talks “Challenges in the integration of renewable energies in marketers, generators, distributors and their digital solutions” and “Opportunities in the electromobility sector in Guatemala” and “Financing solutions in Central America from the French Public Investment Bank and Proparco.”

A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY FOR BOTH NATIONS

Raúl Bouscayrol, president of CIG, during the opening ceremony of the event, commented that “the B2B meetings between Guatemalan companies and French companies, which will be held at the end of the forum, are an excellent opportunity to generate more business opportunities between both nations.

It is worth mentioning that, according to data from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in 2020 France exported pharmaceutical products, perfumes, cosmetics and, increasingly, dairy products to Guatemala, while imports from Guatemala were essentially agricultural products and agri-food.

For his part, Jacques Seidner, President of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Guatemala, indicated that “France has solid expertise in the field of energy transition. For the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Guatemala, it is of utmost importance to strengthen bilateral trade and new businesses in the field of renewable energy and electric mobility. This is why we participated in the organization of the IV Green Economy Forum, with the presence of world-class French companies, which presented the opportunities in this sector for our country.”

For her part, Odile Roussel, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France, commented that this Forum included French companies that have chosen Central America to invest, as well as collaborate in the promotion of clean and sustainable energy solutions in Guatemala.
