After Health and Social Affairs Minister Wolfgang Mückstein announced his resignation, the Greens paved the way for his successor. The Vorarlberg Provincial Councilor Johannes Rauch (62), who was actually about to end his political career, is to take over as the second new head of department during the corona pandemic. Party leader Werner Kogler described him as the “best suited successor”.

Kogler proposed Rauch to the party executive and the parliamentary club on Thursday. The decision in the extended federal executive committee of the party will follow on Friday. The designated minister is then to introduce himself in a press conference. The swearing-in by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen is expected to take place early next week.
