Gref proposed to tighten control over children’s content using AI

Sberbank Chairman of the Board German Gref supports limiting the content that children consume online using artificial intelligence (AI). The top manager told about this in an interview with TASS.

“The number of views and the length of time spent with the viewer’s content are dominant in content companies today. There should be norms that would allow companies to exercise self-control. And the same artificial intelligence should take a check for compliance with the norms, “Gref said.

It is almost impossible to forcibly isolate a child from a gadget, since children perceive it as a psychological trauma, Gref said. Therefore, it is necessary to create mechanisms that limit children’s access to such content. He cited as an example the popular TV series Squid Game, which contains scenes of violence and cruelty and which was watched by many children, including his own.

“I am in favor of strict control over the content that gets to children,” Gref said, adding that this is not an easy task, since children are much more adapted to using gadgets than parents and teachers. In his opinion, it is especially necessary to minimize contacts with gadgets of preschool children.

At the end of October, the country’s first code of ethics for artificial intelligence was created in Russia, which is of a recommendatory nature. Its provisions are designed for AI systems used exclusively for civilian, non-military purposes. The document was developed by representatives of the AI alliance (it includes Sberbank, MTS, VK, Gazprom Neft, Yandex and the Russian Direct Investment Fund) with the participation of the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia. The list of signatories also includes Rosatom, the Skolkovo Foundation, Rostelecom, ITMO University, NRU HSE, MGIMO and other companies and organizations.
