Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Wins Bronze at 2024 Paris Olympics
Gregoria Mariska Tunjung experienced a mix of emotions after securing a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Indonesian badminton player was confirmed for the medal after her opponent, Carolina Marin (Spain), withdrew from their semifinal match due to injury.
Jorji, as Gregoria is affectionately known, was originally scheduled to play for bronze today, Monday (5/8/2024), after losing to An Seyoung (Korea) in the semifinals. However, Marin’s withdrawal granted her the bronze medal without further competition.
“I’m confused, it’s really wrong for me to be happy with other people’s suffering,” Gregoria said in his statement. “This is a disaster for Marin, but I’m confused about how to react.”
This medal marks the first for Indonesian women’s singles since Maria Kristin’s bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
