Images from the match broadcast showed the moment when the goalkeeper Ramon Souza was hit in the leg with a shot, fired by a police officer from the Specialized Police Company. The agent acted “cowardly”, said the club, which classified the episode as “regrettable, ridiculous and revolting”.
In a note sent to GLOBO, the Military Police of Goiás said that they ordered the Internal Affairs Department of the corporation to open a Military Police Inquiry (IPM) to investigate the behavior of the agent “with appropriate intensity.”
In a note published on social media, Grêmio Anápolis said that the policeman committed a “terrible, unbelievable and criminal act”. He also stated that the action described as criminal “came from someone who should be concerned about the safety and integrity of people” in the stadium.
“The 10th of July is marked by a violent, dirty and terrible act against one of our players, which will never be forgotten”, says the note. “GEA informs that it will take appropriate measures, so that the person responsible is punished and that justice is served, so that this CRIMINAL act does not go unpunished.”
Ramon Souza was treated on the field by the club doctor, who provided first aid in a mobile ICU. The player received a wave of messages of solidarity on social media.
“The policeman must be broken. We are with you, my goalkeeper,” said one internet user. “Strength, warriors,” wrote another. “All solidarity with the man who went to work and was shot needlessly. Don’t let this shake you, brother. God bless you”, said a third.
In a statement, the Ministry of Sports classified the action of the police officer as “disproportionate and violent”. The ministry pointed out that the attitude is “unacceptable and must be strongly condemned”.
