Grenoble: the passenger of a car, aged 18, killed by the police during a chase

by time news

The evening ended in tragedy. During the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the young passenger of a car chased by the police was killed by police fire in Grenoble.

The facts took place in the south of the city, Cours de la Liberation (not far from the Stade Lesdiguières) shortly after 2:30 am. A chase ensued between a car and the police after the driver, who had committed traffic offences, refused to be checked. According to our information, he quickly fired three times at the police, before ending his journey in a dead end.

He would then have tried to hit the officials after hitting several vehicles, according to a police source, confirmed by the public prosecutor of Grenoble, Éric Vaillant. This is where the police opened fire.

The driver in the hospital

The 18-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was fatally shot in the neck. The driver, in his twenties, was injured and taken to hospital but his days are not in danger, said the public prosecutor of Grenoble. No policeman, however, was hit by the shots. A weapon was found in the car, according to concordant sources.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the Grenoble judicial police for “attempted murder of a person in charge of authority”. At the same time, the prosecution opened an investigation into the shootings carried out by the police – as is always the case in these circumstances – and seized the IGPN (General Inspectorate of the National Police) of Lyon.

This case is reminiscent of the refusal to comply which took place in Paris last June, during which the young passenger of the vehicle refusing to stop, aged 21, was killed by police fire. .
