The French national team is within touching distance of a milestone achieved only twice before – winning two World Cups in a row. Didier Deschamps’ team did the job last night (Wednesday) and with a 0:2 against Morocco secured the ticket to the 2022 World Cup final, on the way to a huge meeting against Argentina and Leo Messi.
When the French team arrived at the current World Cup, quite a few question marks were surrounding Antoine Griezmann. The 31-year-old attacker’s talent has never been in doubt, but with his ability drastically declining in recent years, it was unclear whether he could replicate his magnificent 2018 tournament.
After another great performance yesterday (Wednesday), in the semi-final against Morocco, we can already say that Antoine Griezmann has proven how important he is for the French team, is expected to be included in the tournament team, and is doing all this from a completely different position in which he played during his career.
Griezmann, who was top scorer at Euro 2016 and one of France’s standout winners in the previous World Cup with four goals, was forced to make a change in his role, following the many injuries in France’s midfield and dropping back on the pitch. Yesterday against Morocco, he presented his best game, and deservedly won the title of MVP.
In ‘Sky’ we consoled Griezmann: “Everyone will focus on Mbappe and Messi for the final, and that’s understandable, but if France wants to keep their title, they need Griezmann with another performance like this. If they win, his fingerprints will be all over this trophy.” .
The world media also wrote about Atlético’s player: “He changed his function and did it in style. The game was the ‘Antoine Griezmann show’. He simply did everything on the field and was undoubtedly France’s outstanding player.
Griezmann himself said after he was selected as outstanding: “Stopping Leo Messi is going to be a particularly difficult challenge. Any team that has him has a real chance to win. He is one of the best players in the world. We will have to overcome his influence.”
