Grigor Dimitrov replaces Nadal at Laver Cup

Grigor Dimitrov has been included in Europe’s squad for the upcoming Laver Cup team tennis tournament. The competition will be held in Berlin next week, and the Bulgarian will replace Rafael Nadal. The Spanish tennis player withdrew because he wants to focus on his recovery Nadal last played at the Paris Olympics and missed the US Open because he was out of shape.

Thus, Grigor Dimitrov will also participate in the tournament in Berlin, which will be held between September 20 and 22. The Bulgarian last played in the competition in 2018, when he recorded one match in singles against Frances Tiafoe (USA) – 6:1, 6:4 and one in doubles with David Goffen (Belgium), with which he prevailed over Jack Sock ( USA) and Nick Kyrios (Australia) – 3:6, 4:6.

Dimitrov helped the selection of Europe to win the trophy against the team of the rest of the world with 13:8.

In the Old Continent team, Dimitrov will be teammates with Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Kasper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev, while the World team, led by John McEnroe, will feature Taylor Fritz, Francis Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Francisco Cerundolo and Alejandro Tabillo.

This year’s Laver Cup will be the last for captains John McEnroe and Björn Borg. Next season they will be replaced by Andre Agassi and Yannick Noah respectively. Laver Cup 2025 will be held in San Francisco.
