Tokyo Soundtrack by Furukawa Hideo, in the translation by Gianluca Coci, is the new title – the fourth – of the series «The great Japanese literature», on newsstands from 1 June with «Corriere della Sera». Set in an overheated and virus-threatened Tokyo, the novel tells the story of a boy and a girl who share a unique experience: having managed to survive on a desert island. They will face further trials in this extraordinary coming-of-age novel written by one of Japan’s foremost contemporary authors, winner of numerous awards including the Mystery Writers of Japan Award.

Nature and technology, youth anger and climate change, sexual identity, dreams of the beginning of the millennium. After the poem by The cat who wanted to save the books of Sōsuke Natsukawa (e after The assassination of the Commendatore by Murakami Haruki who opened the series, followed by Sweet tomorrow by Banana Yoshimoto), here is Furukawa’s futuristic Japan. And on Tuesday 8 June another milestone of contemporary Japanese fiction arrives: The ring by Yoko Ogawa (translation by Cristiana Ceci). In short: the young protagonist, who lacks a “shell-shaped piece of meat” in her left ring finger, finds work in Mr. Deshimaru’s workshop. It will have to welcome customers who have come to deliver an object that will be transformed into a “specimen”.


Dystopias, tender and other enigmatic fables, contemporary classics, passionate stories (Nobel Prize winner Kenzabur arrives on 6 Julyō Ōand with “The water forest»), thriller: there is the best literary panorama of the last two decades in the series that the “Corriere” dedicates to Japanese authors, in all 25 volumes released weekly. Among the titles, even novels made available again thanks to agreements with Japanese agents.

Each book in the series, with the cover and the graphic design of the XxY studio, costs € 8.90 plus the price of the newspaper and remains on newsstands for the whole week. The authors of the works collected in the series, edited by Annachiara Sacchi, sign both with surname and name, in the Japanese style, as well as with name and surname, in the Western style: it was decided to keep the order chosen by the publishers.
