Guadeloupe: new “exactions” at the CHU, the management files a complaint

by time news

The tension concerning non-vaccinated caregivers does not fall in Guadeloupe. The management of the Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospital (CHUG) announced that it had filed a complaint after new “exactions” on Thursday, denouncing in a press release “degradations” and actions having “obstructed the execution of public service missions of several of his installations.

“About fifty people invaded the human resources department of the CHUG, blocked the corridor with a cupboard, cut off the electricity and made it impossible for the agents to carry out their missions” of this service, explained the management of the CHU. And, according to her, “the militants attacked the schools and training institutes of the CHUG, and forced the students to leave the amphitheaters and the trainers to leave their offices”. Damage was also reported.

Government proposal rejected

The management of the CHU pointed the finger at members of the “collective of organizations in struggle”, which has been campaigning since July 2021 against the obligation to vaccinate against Covid-19 for healthcare personnel. Gaby Clavier, a trade unionist affiliated with the health branch of the General Union of Guadeloupe Workers (UGTG), explained during a press conference on the spot that this mobilization aimed to “demand the reintegration, rehabilitation and compensation of suspended”.

Many clashes occurred at the CHU at the height of the Covid crisis in Guadeloupe. They were also the starting point for urban violence which paralyzed the island for several weeks in November 2021.

In an attempt to ease tensions, the government has offered people suspended in Guadeloupe increased contractual terminations as well as a more flexible pre-retirement scheme, said mid-October Joël Mathurin, chief of staff to the Minister Delegate for Overseas Territories. . These proposals were refused by the collective.
