The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, will celebrate this Tuesday a international summit on Venezuela to supposedly “relaunch the dialogue between the Government and the opposition”, but in which the true objective is the whitewashing of the Chavista dictatorship and the end of economic sanctions. The Venezuelan opponent has arrived by surprise at that summit, in which the representatives of anti-Chavismo will not participate. Juan Guaidowho has challenged the prohibition to leave Venezuela due to the judicial processes opened against him.

Guaidó reported on Monday his arrival in Colombia, where he hopes to meet with the international delegations that will participate in the Petro conference, including representatives of the US and the top European diplomat Josep Borrell.

“I have just arrived in Colombia, in the same way that millions of Venezuelans have done before me, walking. I have come within the framework of the summit called by President Petro for this Tuesday, April 25,” says a statement published on the former deputy’s Twitter account.

Guaidó has also advanced that he will meet with Venezuelans who have had to emigrate to flee poverty and who currently reside in Colombia. According to United Nations agencies, they are approximately three million of people.

“I hope that the summit can guarantee that the Maduro regime returns to the table negotiations in Mexico (officially paralyzed since November 2022) and a credible timetable is agreed for some free and fair elections“, the letter continues, alluding to the presidential elections that the country must celebrate in 2024.

Guaidó has asked in his note to stop persecuting his family and the freedom of “almost 300 political prisoners who remain in the dungeons” in Venezuela. He has also reiterated that in recent days “the threats” against him have risen in Venezuela, where he has denounced that the government ordered his imprisonment, in the midst of the campaign carried out by the politician ahead of the primaries on October 22, when an anti-Chavista coalition will define a unitary candidate for the presidential elections.

“Their objective is to silence my voice. I am not going to allow that to Maduro. Despite the risk involved in going out again to seek support from the world for Venezuelans, as I have done before, I am not going to stop doing it,” stressed the opponent. He has also indicated that despite the “risk”, he will continue to denounce “the crimes against humanity committed by the Maduro regime”.
