Guarderas, Cpccs advisor, filed a new lawsuit against the Vice President for an alleged electoral violation.
Juan Esteban Guarderas, member of the Citizen Participation and Social Control Council (Cpccs), expressed that he hopes that Vice President Verónica Abad will be sanctioned before the end of this year.
Guarderas, who filed a new lawsuit against the Vice President for an alleged electoral violation, told the EFE agency that, with the sanction, the Second President would lose political rights and will not be able to hold any public office. For this reason, she would no longer be Vice President. The Cpccs counselor considers that, if the second lawsuit is successful, results could be obtained before the end of the year.
As in the first time, Guarderas filed the lawsuit for alleged irregularity in the local government elections of February last year. At that time, Abad ran as a candidate for mayor of her native Cuenca.
The first lawsuit was filed in the middle of the month by Judge Fernando Muñoz, of the Contentious Electoral Court. Guarderas accuses Abad of having campaigned outside the period established for proselytizing when she was a candidate for Mayor of Cuenca, a version that the vice president described as ridiculous.
The Ecuadorian vice president, who is in conflict with President Daniel Noboa, questioned Guarderas’ first complaint, whom she accused of having frequently visited the Presidency of the Republic. Regarding this new attempt, he has not commented. Abad has reiterated that there is harassment towards her by Noboa and his Government to allegedly force her to resign.
With this, they want to prevent her from assuming presidential functions when the president seeks re-election in 2025. The Vice President was sent last December by Noboa to Israel as an ambassador, in a decision that revealed her distance.
