Guardiola declares in Mendy’s rape trial: “I’m not his father”

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City managertestified in the trial for violation of Benjamin Mendy and said that he is not his father and that he does not get involved in the private lives of his footballers.

Mendy, who remains suspended by City, pleaded not guilty to seven charges of rape, one of attempted rape and one of sexual assault against six women.

“I control my players when they are together in training. In their private life, I don’t know what they do. I don’t follow the players on social networks and I don’t know what they do outside of training and games. I’m not their father”, Guardiola declared.

Guardiola commented that it was Mendy who asked him to testify at the trial and spoke about the Frenchman’s personality.

“He is a great boy. I would say he is very generous. He is always happy and I remember that when we are all together and someone asks for a favor, if he could, he would do it. He adapted very quickly to the team and was very happy to be able to help their peers,” he added.
