Largely dominant but trailing at half-time, the Citizens found the resources to overthrow Red Star Belgrade. A success which delights their trainer.

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach (after the 3-1 Champions League victory against Red Star Belgrade, on TNT Sports):

“Football is the only sport where statistics don’t matter. The previous two matches, I don’t know how many chances we missed. The guys made an incredible effort but we weren’t able to score. But we were consistent and in the end we won the match. (At halftime) Having 22 shots on goal shows that we were playing really well. It is the responsibility of the boys up front to score goals. If we had scored two goals earlier, it would have been completely different. As against West Ham (Saturday in the league, editor’s note), we had a magnificent match. We missed chances but we were able to create a lot of them. At halftime, I told them: guys, we can’t say we played badly. Forget the result, we are capable of coming back so go ahead. Keep your positions, stay calm and we did it.”
