Guatemala and Jamaica had agreed on a friendly match for April 15, which would serve both squads to better prepare for the 2023 Gold Cup that will take place in the United States from from June 16 to July 16.

However, the match, which had been announced on the Jamaican Football Federation’s social networks on March 1 and was to be played in New York, whose venue has not yet been confirmed, will no longer take place.

This was confirmed by engineer Gerardo Paiz, president of the Guatemalan Soccer Federation (Fedefut).

There was the option of playing against Jamaica, but there was no signed contract to make it official, it was in the plans but the promoter reported that they (Jamaica) were asking for a lot of money, so it was agreed not to carry it out anymore” reported the leader.

The Guatemalan National Team reaped its first achievements at the hands of Luis Fernando Tena in March after achieving promotion to League A of the Concacaf Nations League and a direct ticket to the next edition of the Gold Cup played by the best teams in the area.

Guatemala is located in Pot 2, the same one that it shares with the teams of Panama, Haiti and Jamaica itself.
