Representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Búcaro, the director of Bilateral International Relations of Minex, Michelle Bran, emphasized the importance of this celebration, which joins the commemoration of the independence of both countries in the month of September. Ella Bran highlighted that Guatemala and Mexico not only share a geographical border, but also strong emotional ties, solid historical ties and a great diversity of cultural expressions that enrich their relationship.

The commemorative postage stamp, a work of art in itself, refers to the ancient cultures of both countries. Among the elements depicted on the seal are the majestic Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala, the impressive archaeological complex of Teotihuacán in Mexico and the iconic mythological figure of the feathered serpent, which is shared by the civilizations of Mesoamerica.

The general director for Central America and the Caribbean of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, Carlos Imanol Belausteguigoitia, expressed that this new postal stamp is a tangible testimony of the friendship and lasting collaboration between both nations over the years. The creation and issuance of the commemorative stamp were possible thanks to the collaboration between the General Directorate of Posts and Telegraphs of Guatemala and the Mexican Postal Service.

With the launch of this commemorative stamp, the Government of Guatemala, through Minex, reaffirms its commitment to strengthening relations with the world, especially with brother countries like Mexico.

The authorities recalled that formal bilateral relations between Mexico and Guatemala were established on September 6, 1848. Over the years, both nations have strengthened their ties by signing agreements and agreements of various kinds. Among these, the Herrera Mariscal Treaty of 1882 stands out, which established the territorial limits between the two countries.

Within the Executive Branch, numerous meetings have been held between representatives of both nations. One of the highlights was the visit of the President of Mexico, Andrés López Obrador, to his Guatemalan counterpart in May 2022. During this meeting, individual and joint actions for the benefit of both nations were discussed, underlining the importance of continued collaboration between Guatemala and Mexico on the international stage.
