Guatemala Architecture Biennial: The 20 finalists for the Danta 2023 Awards

The Guatemala Architecture Biennial 2023 is getting closer and closer to its main three-day event (November 15 to 17), having in parallel activities such as the delivery of the Danta 2023 Awards, in its two categories: Students and Professionals.

Main point. The organization of the 2023 Biennial announced Real Estate Republic the list of the 20 finalists of the Danta Award contest, whose winners will be announced on Thursday, November 16.

The Danta Awards are held in parallel with the 2023 Guatemala Architecture Biennial, in order to recognize the effort and innovation of Guatemalan and Central American architecture professionals and students.
Its objective, since its first edition in 2016, is to recognize the effort and innovation of Guatemalan and Central American architecture students.
One of the recognitions that will be generated for the winning professionals in each category is their participation in the Quito Biennial 2024, fully sponsored by the Guatemala Biennial.

You. Esteban Borjes Castillo, general coordinator of the 2023 Architecture Biennial, explained that the call for the Danta Awards began on August 6 and ended on October 12.

After more than two months of the call, a total of 75 projects participated (in the different subcategories): 48 in the Professional category and 27 in the Student category.
“Among the 75 finalists, there are Central American architects and students,” commented Borjes Castillo.
Central American students were allowed to participate in two subcategories of “Architectural Design.” In the case of professionals, Central American works were allowed in the categories of “Minimal Architecture and Other Types of Architecture” and the subcategories of “Architectural Design.”

Exhibition. Borjes Castillo explained that the works of the 20 finalists will be exhibited in the lobby of the Great Efraín Recinos Hall of the Miguel Ángel Asturias Cultural Center, from November 15 to 17, during the 2023 Biennial.

The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 16, around 7:00 pm, at the end of the conferences and panels of the second day of the main event of the Biennale.

The judge. The jury for the Danta 2023 Awards was made up of three national and three international architects, who received all the proposals to provide an individual qualification. To select the finalists, an average of the six ratings made by the six juries was made.

The national juries are: Anayancy Rodríguez, Sofía Cabassa and Dafne Acevedo.
The international juries are: Ludwig Godefroy, Fabián Dejtiar and Rodrigo Martínez.

Newspaper archive. In its 2023 edition, the Guatemala Architecture Biennial will address the importance of public spaces, which are the place where the sense of belonging, unity and identity is forged.

Following up on the 2021 theme, mobility, on this occasion, the core conversation of the 2023 Biennial, revolves around the city. On this occasion, focusing on public spaces.
The main activities of the 2023 Biennial are the keynote lectures given by each of the international architects invited to the Grand Event. They will be held from November 15 to 17 at the Miguel Ángel Asturias Cultural Center.
