Guatemala Fashion Week has opened the call for entries to the Made in Guate competition for Central American designers
He Guatemala Fashion Week ―recognized for his work in promoting Guatemalan fashion―, has opened the invitation to the Made in Guate competition. This initiative seeks Central American designers that present a Design line that incorporates artisanal processes developed in Guatemala. The proposal must include between 8 and 10 looksreflecting the richness of the country’s artisanal techniques.
The contest Made in Guate offers designers the chance to stand out on one of the most important catwalks in the region. The winner will have the opportunity to exhibit their collection at Guatemala Fashion Week 2024, in addition to receiving technical advice to develop their product alongside Guatemalan artisans. As part of the prize, the selected designer will travel to Guatemala to learn first-hand about the techniques and artisan communities that will collaborate in the creation of their collection. They will also receive a full scholarship to present their work, VIP access to all events at the event, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Guatemala City.
Call details
The Call will be open from August 13 to September 13, 2024. Winners will be announced on September 18, and the winner must be available to travel to Guatemala between September 23 and October 11, 2024, as well as the week of November 11-17.
Interested designers must submit a visual proposal of the concept they wish to develop, accompanied by a preliminary design of the collection. It is essential that the collection integrates artisanal techniques available in Guatemala, which can be consulted at this link.
To participate, designers must meet the following requirements:
- Working with fashion-related products, in this sense meaning clothing and accessories, that incorporate processes and materials made by artisans in their final products.
- Be a national or resident of legal age of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica or Panama.
- The final product must include 70% artisanal processes.
- Have at least six months of experience working consistently with artisans.
- Have production capacity.
- Have a presence on social networks or a website for brand communication.
- Possess a professional brand portfolio.
- Have a registered trademark or be registered for tax purposes in your country of residence.
- Have a point of sale, whether online, in multi-brand stores or in a showroom own.
