Each artist, through their works, shares their experience as migrants, exploring cultural exchange and the “longing to belong.” The exhibition also serves as a platform to discuss culture, geopolitics and globalization, supporting the artists and promoting art among the attendees.

Guatemalan artists to exhibit in Taiwan

William Canton y Maria Ines Lacayo are the Guatemalans who will present their art in Taiwanat the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Cultural Center, one of the most important cultural spaces in the region. The exhibition will be open from August 2 to 11 and has been curated by the Guatemalan Alejandra Sanchez Mack.

María Inés Lacayo, known as “Milah,” is a Guatemalan artist with international projection, having taken her art to countries such as Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. Her work includes paintings, murals, sculptures, and installations. In “Nuestro Segundo Hogar,” she will present the series “Niño Color,” with which she deeply explores childhood, color, and personal evolution.

Guillermo Cantón, for his part, has distinguished himself by creating unique abstract pieces that combine shapes and colors. His works have been presented in New York, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. In Taiwan he will present the series “Belonging of the Soul,” where he reflects on the sense of belonging, beyond the physical location, focusing on the soul and the emotional state, using his characteristic interplay between shape and color.

Highlighting Latin American and Guatemalan art in Asia

Alejandra Sanchez Mack is the Guatemalan behind this exhibition. She has lived in Taiwan for five years and founded and organized this exhibition, which is now in its fifth edition, making it the most important of its kind in the Asian country.

She is an architect with a Master of Arts degree, specializing in critical and curatorial studies, and is currently pursuing a PhD in political science with a focus on East Asian studies. Additionally, she is a trained contemporary dancer, triathlete, and part of the rowing team.

The exhibition “Our Second Home” not only celebrates the artists’ connection to Taiwan, but also seeks to foster intercultural dialogue and strengthen ties between Latin America and Asia through art. This exhibition is a testament to the power of art to transcend borders and create meaningful connections between people of different backgrounds and cultures.
