Jujan, 676 people, belonging to 169 producing families in the Jujan canton, province of Guayas, benefit from CampoSeguro compensation, deliveries of agricultural inputs, certificates from the Learning Communities and land ownership titles, granted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock ( MAG).

The CampoSeguro project was supported and work is being done on public policies that improve their living conditions.

“We want to support them, that is why we encourage them to insure their crops, in this way their efforts and work will be protected against climatic phenomena, pests and diseases that could occur and affect their production,” Palacios said.

Producers in that province received more than $4,500 in compensation for having suffered partial or total losses in their hard corn and rice crops. The compensation was delivered through CampoSeguro, a MAG project that encourages producers to insure their crops to avoid losses due to weather events, diseases and/or pests.

In Guayas, between January 1, 2023 and January 31, 2024, 777 procedures were approved, with an area of ​​2,002.19 hectares, providing $63,000 in compensation. Throughout the country, in that period, 6,050 policies were approved, with 19,355 hectares insured, providing 790,218 dollars, for the 60%, 40% and 20% compensation contemplated by CampoSeguro.

During Minister Palacios’ visit to Guayas, producers also received 20 land titles, which legalize 24.58 hectares. With this document they will be able to work with peace of mind knowing that the land belongs to them.

In addition, 25 Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno producers received training certificates in the Learning Communities. They learned about the process to register and obtain AFC seals, develop urban gardens, ecological soil management, preparation of inputs, cultivation and breeding systems, alternative marketing circuits, irrigation, ancestral practices, and others.

During the minister’s tour, agricultural input kits were also delivered to implement demonstration plots of cocoa and banana, in order to improve the agricultural production of the associations: Unión y Trabajo Primavera, of Supaypungo Agricultural Producers, of 5 de Octubre Self-Employed Agricultural Workers, of La Lejía Agricultural Producers, ASOPROCAORG, of Los Chirijos Producers and of San José de Jujan Producers.

The 120 producers from the aforementioned associations received input kits provided by the National Productive Incentives Project for the Agricultural Sector (PNIPSA), and with the help of the private company they will learn to apply them correctly.
