Lhe representatives of the media regulatory bodies of these three West African countries, all in transition, are in the Guinean capital for a few days of experience sharing. This Monday, May 29, 2023, the honor went to the president of the High Authority of Communication (HAC) of Guinea to receive in a hotel receptive of the place, his counterpart of the HAC of Mali and that of the Superior Council of Communication (CSC) of Burkina Faso.

The exchanges took place in front of executives of the Regulatory Authority of Posts and Telecommunications (ARPT) Guinea. For two days, the debates will be oriented towards issues and possible problems facing the media in the exercise of their work, especially in these transition periods in which all three countries of the West African region live.

“This forum is a meeting place for exchanging experiences that will allow us to achieve positive results to better manage the problems that arise in terms of media regulation, during this period of transition in our three countries”, confided Boubacar Yacine Diallo.

During these two days, the debates will focus on, among other things: the protection of journalists, freedom of the press in a period of transition, respect for ethics and deontology. On these points, these executives remain optimistic about the change in the situation.

“Hoping that in the end, useful and relevant resolutions will result, those that can be operationalized in each of our three countries. Since everyone has an experience with some singularities and which can always enrich the other. It is therefore the final goal of the exercise”, expressed the president of the HAC of Mali, Gaoussou Koulibaly.

For the president of the Superior Council of Communication of Burkina Faso, it is essential that these three countries have responsible journalists.

“A humanitarian and security crisis situation makes it important for us to have a press that is both professional and responsible to prevent their activity from further weakening our countries. And on this, regulators have an important role to play with political authorities and with media players. To ensure that the activity of these two actors can help us to get out of these political transitions, but also to face these security and humanitarian challenges that our countries are facing”, indicated in his turn, the Burkinabè Abdoul Aziz Bamago.
