Guinea paid tribute this Friday, November 17 to the victims of the attack on the Central House, during a national funeral. Two civilians and four soldiers died in the shootings which took place during the commando’s escape through Conakry. The head of the junta, Mamadi Doumbouya, presided over a ceremony at the Mohammed V Palace, the presidential palace. The burials took place in the middle of the day, at the Cameroon cemetery.

Several security force pick-ups are parked at the entrance as a reminder: 15 days ago, Conakry experienced an unprecedented assault on one of the most heavily guarded buildings in the most secure district of the capital. And a fugitive, Claude Pivi, is still at large. Sirens and then the six ambulances appear, carrying the remains of the victims.

In the crowd attending the funeral, many soldiers: Red berets, green berets… With closed faces, they came to say goodbye to their brothers in arms who fell under the commando’s bullets. Four special forces soldiers were killed.

In the shade of a large tree, a woman tries to escape the blazing sun. She sobs and cries under her breath: “ Alseny continue! Alseny continue! » “Alseny is gone.” Alseny Keïta, is one of the civilian victims. The young nurse died in an ambulance machine-gunned on the bridge on November 8. Alongside him, a six-year-old girl, Marie-Angèle, also lost her life.

Friday morning, the president of the transition invited the families and members of his government to a final tribute during which he decorated the victims posthumously. This national funeral did not concern the three members of the commando killed by the security forces.
